You all really know how to make a girl feel good...

Good morning, friends!

Wow!!

So after posting and asking for your help last night, this morning I woke up to 73 responses via Facebook, comments on the blog, and emails... all of which were positive.

I can't even tell you all how much it meant to me that you'd take time to let me know that you enjoy Pennies & Pancakes and want it to continue despite the recent changes to my lifestyle.

I just want to say, THANK YOU!

AND SO... the show must go in, right? ;)

Stay tuned for more inexpensive recipes, frugal tips, and anecdotes to come.

Love, Andrea

  1. Andrea...I love your honesty and your inner conversation...raising my hand in sisterhood here! :) I read your post yesterday, but was in busy-mode last night and too exhausted to write until now! I appreciate your blog and your tips, etc. I also drive a 2004 minivan (the hubs has a work vehicle...) and we have a secret too...we bought a home and in 6 years we will be DEBT FREE! Our close friends think we are nuts, but using tips from blogs like yours we know we can do it. We now can see the outcome on the other side from mentors like you who can buy strawberries out of season and steaks too. Don't be shy about your success...keep on keepin' on! We are cheering you from the sidelines!

  3. 'ATTAGIRL! I knew that Brain 2 would win out. We each have a differing point of view in life and it is quite refreshing to be able to read yours here on your blog. Like the other reader said - Keep on Keepin' on!

  4. By the way, I have used so many of your recipes, I forgot to mention yesterday in my comment that we have a Pennies/Pancake recipe folder!! thanks again......

other ways we use the crockpot refried beans: taco salad, tostadas, bean/cheese quesadillas

  5. I'll add my two cents here and say "good for you". By not practicing entirely what you preach doesn't make you a hypocrite. It makes you knowledgeable that you still know how to be frugal. After being a wonderfully responsible frugal woman when you needed it means it is also OK to relax those boundaries for a while now. Having a few extras now because you couldn't have them previously is just fine.

We're doing the same thing with our three young adult children right now also. We're helping them all through college and that means for now we are extremely frugal and I preach it to them all the time. I'll release those boundaries when they/we are done paying for college in about 4 years. At least I know how to be frugal JUST LIKE YOU. Blessing, my friend--keep blogging your frugality or lack thereof! I'm still reading your stuff!

  6. I am so glad that you decided to continue! You are not a hypocrite! I love a lot of your recipes but I want to share something else with you. My sister and I did not like each other for a long time. She lives in Michigan and I live in Virginia. It was easy to not talk to each other. My sister suggested that I look at your blog. I did. It was a way for us to connect. We were both trying the recipes and we were TALKING and SHARING! We are still talking and sharing. One day she was looking at the messages on your best ever pizza dough recipe. She was thinking that the lady who posted thought just like her sister (me) and when she got to the bottom of the message she saw I had signed it. It made her laugh. She texted me about it. I called her and we laughed together. My kids had never met her. My daughter saved up and flew out to meet my sister.

I love your tips even though my family tends to go out to eat once a week. Part of the reason we can do that is because I am frugal in other ways. CONGRATS on your husband's job! I for one am proud of you both.
