Frugality Tip #6: Get Your FREE Credit Score and Report with Credit Karma
Last year, I learned about a wonderful website called, Credit Karma. Hopefully, many of you have already heard of it.
My husband and I have always had a credit card that allowed us to check out credit reports for free twice a year. We thought that was pretty darn good, considering the norm was to pay for that kind of information.
Well.
Credit Karma changed EVERYTHING.
Here's a company that allows us to track and monitor our credit online:
Any day
Any time
As many times as we want
and there will be:
No hidden fees
No effect on our credit
No cost, period
No selling of our information to third-parties
and we are able to :
See our credit report summaries
See our credit scores
See all information on our credit records and how our rating and score are determined
Keep our information 100% private
This site is amazing, and absolutely anyone can use it. Trust me. You are going to love it.
Credit Karma is quick and easy to use, and will even make easy-to-understand personalized suggestions on how you can improve your credit. The site explains how things like "hard pulls" and "soft pulls" and how they affect your credit, as well as what factors go into your credit rating and score.
For those of you who want to learn more about how credit works, and how it affects you, the site does a wonderful job of explaining everything.
Having good credit is vital!
~ Mortgage lenders want to know you won't default on your loan.
~ Banks will give the best interest rates on loans to those with the best credit.
~ Many employers will do a pull on your credit before hiring you.
~ Utility companies pull your credit to see if you've paid past bills before they offer their services.
~ Your credit is checked when you apply for a credit card (including store cards like Kohl's, or Payless)
~ Purchasing a new car, like purchasing a new home, requires you to have excellent credit in order to qualify for the lowest interest rate, and the highest loan amount, should you need it.
Having excellent credit can help you save a significant amount of money over the course of your lifetime.
Using Credit Karma is the perfect way to stay up-to-date on your credit so you can make informed decisions on how to improve your rating and score or maintain your excellent credit status.
